This is the most important temple in Kandy and one of the most sacred places in Sri Lanka. The temple houses the left canine tooth of Lord Buddha, brought to Sri Lanka over 2,000 years ago. As you walk through the beautiful halls, you will feel the peaceful spiritual atmosphere. Watch the traditional rituals and enjoy the Kandyan architectural beauty. This site is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site and remains the heart of Sri Lankan Buddhist culture.
Next, we visit the lovely Kandy Lake, built by the last king of Kandy in 1807. Take a gentle walk around the lake and enjoy the calm water, green surroundings, and views of the temple. From the city view point, you can see the whole of Kandy city nestled among the hills – a perfect spot for beautiful photos.
Just a short drive from Kandy lies the magnificent Royal Botanical Gardens. Spread over 147 acres, this garden is famous for its huge collection of tropical plants, orchids, spices, and giant trees. You will see the famous Avenue of Palms, beautiful flower beds, and the giant Javan fig tree. It is a wonderful place to relax and enjoy nature at its best. Many travelers say this is one of the highlights of their entire Sri Lanka trip.
We stop at a good local restaurant where you can enjoy authentic Sri Lankan food (lunch cost not included).
We visit the giant white Buddha statue sitting on the hill. From here you get one of the best panoramic views of the entire Kandy city and surrounding green hills. It is a peaceful and photogenic spot.
See skilled craftsmen at work creating beautiful wooden souvenirs using traditional methods. Afterwards, visit a Spice and Herbal Garden where you can learn about Sri Lanka’s famous spices like cinnamon, cardamom, and pepper. You can even taste fresh herbal tea and buy natural products.
Watch local artists creating colorful Batik fabric using the ancient wax-resist method. Then visit a Gem Museum to learn about Sri Lanka’s world-famous precious stones such as sapphires, rubies, and moonstones. You can see the cutting and polishing process and shop for authentic gems if you wish.
End your day with a visit to a traditional Tea Factory. Learn how Sri Lankan tea is produced, from fresh green leaves to the final fragrant product. Enjoy a free cup of fresh Ceylon tea while enjoying the beautiful views of the surrounding tea hills.
We will safely return you to your hotel after a wonderful day full of memories.
